Margaret E. Dickins Children's Technology and
Multi-Sensory Room Center

By definition, assistive technology is any item, piece of equipment, or product system that is used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities of children.

The Dickins Technology Center in the Discovery Learning Center is where children learn to communicate their needs while learning mobility, independence, freedom of choice, and other communication skills.

Through the benefit of computer software, augmentative communication devices, and switch toys - all designed or adapted for special needs - children will learn practical skills such as reading readiness, cause and effect, identifying colors and letters, sign recognition, and daily living skills. All of these skills can be transferred to everyday situations at home and school.
