PARC's Home & Community-Based Behavior Analysis
PARC offers a wide range of behavior services from experienced certified behavior analysts. These services are offered to both individuals attending the day programs and to those living in PARC residences.
What is a Functional Behavior Assessment?
The functional assessment is a foundation of behavioral support. The results of a functional assessment let caregivers design an environment that "works" for people with communication and behavioral challenges.
The person with the challenges and those who best know the person collaborate with someone trained in behavioral analysis. Together, they plan how to reduce or eliminate challenging behavior.
Functional assessment methods look at the behavioral support needs of people who exhibit the full range of challenging behaviors
Those who exhibit challenging behaviors may be labeled as having a developmental disability, autism, mental retardation, mental illness, emotional or behavioral disorder, traumatic brain injury or may carry no formal diagnostic labels at all. These individuals vary greatly in their overall support needs and ability to communicate and participate in their own behavioral support.
Behavior Support Plans
The purpose of a behavioral support plan (BSP) is to design a set of specific behavioral interventions to reduce and replace challenging behaviors.
The plan is specifically designed around the environment the challenging behaviors occur. The behavior analyst may teach the individual new or alternative behaviors to replace the problem behavior. Family members and support personnel will be trained to implement behavior interventions that promote consistency and generalization across multiple settings. In addition, the behavior analyst may teach the individual functional communication skills to replace the problem behavior.
